Fresh Start to 2011

Happy 2011! I hope you had a really fabulous Christmas. Are you making New Year's resolutions yet? I just realized that I want to start making my list of goals for the coming year - something I do every January, but continue to update as the year goes on. It's so fun to look back and see accomplishments small and big.

I have a little announcement. I'm just about to launch a brand spankin' new blog - Universal Eater! It's a space where I'll be sharing my continued health journey, in addition to a more personal side of my ups and downs as I walk my path. I've toyed with the idea of sharing all of this on Sweetly Raw, but it seems fitting that I find a new space, especially since it will be void of raw desserts. In fact, as a commitment to myself, I will be blogging daily for the whole month of January 2011.

I feel that I have come really far in my quest of returning to a healthy body and mind, yet there are still areas where I struggle. As of December 26th I've started a "detox" diet. No messing around until January 1st. I felt it was imperative to get started right away. This is different from any detoxing or cleansing I've done before though. No juice fasting, smoothie/raw soup dieting, or fruit cleansing for me this time. I'm back to a cacao-free diet... and I'm going full blast by cutting out all sweeteners too!

I see my daily blogging commitment as a way to stay accountable to my new plan. What exactly is the plan? I'll map it all out in detail on the new blog. My food plan, recipes, my emotional and physical reactions to going without my beloved cacao/sugar, how I am ensuring my success, other modalities I am using to heal, and what I've been through since my last post which detailed my progress. Stay tuned. The blog will be up shortly.

Here's my lake, covered in snow and ice, taken by my mom on a day when the fog came in.

Hi Heather,
That is indeed a beautiful picture your Mum took of your home river. The photo seems fitting for the next steps in your journey. I too have sugar dependencies and am interested in what you are doing.

Blessings on your work and search.

Oh, honey, I am SO excited for your new blog...the recipes and detailed meal plans would be so so AMAZING and appreciated beyond your imagination.
You inspire me.
I'm having a tough time. I tried to do a jog and walk method today (determined to start a jogging program again). But I was crawling and stumbling the whole time. My body aches. But maybe I am just tired from sitting all the time? I do gentle yoga, but it never feels enough. And I've been walking for 2 years. I just can't stand it anymore. Really.
I've cut out sweeteners and other necessaries.
However, I eat perhaps 4 servings of fruit a day. Perhaps that is not good. I also eat very heavy on the animal products , so I fear I've swung up to much to an extreme.
But my energy is so low. All I wish to do is sleep and sleep and sleep. Even the idea of changing my bedding sheets is exhausting. Ridiculous, much? I think so.
But it has been over 2 years of this, and just walking. I want to do cardio. I'm so conflicted. It is the NEW YEAR and I want to treat and honor my body SO right. You know?
I plan to start a blog now also. I'm just stuck on a title :)
Sounds funny but I have no idea what to call a blog because I want to include health as only a part of it.
Anyway, your openness and honesty on a new blog would be amaze.
Happy happy new year to you hon.

I'll be curious if your diet will be similar to what I've had to start following due to health reasons. It's void of most sweeteners and most fruits. I wish you well finding the diet that makes you feel the best. It's a tough journey sometimes but worth the trip when you get there.

can't wait for your new blog, the alfredo turned out fantastic, my noodles dehydrated too much they looked like threads, tasty crisp threads, but i have fun trying, i keeping thoughts of your continuing healthy growth, i go snack on the tasty sunflower seed rece you posted, i mixed up the cayenne with the chili, there were the same color, but they are good anyway. will work on my healthier eating too.

In response to you, and anonymous.
Wishing you both success in recovering your health.

I have been on a journey for over 10 years.

My top issues were MSG, gluten, and FODMAPS.

Check out www.msgmyth.com
Google FODMAPS. Also,read
info at DogtorJ.com

I found the most help at these sites. :) I felt the need to share
as I know how awful it is to lose your self in health issues.

Anon- sounds like MSG issues are likely. MSG is now marketed under 53 different names.

Hi Heather,
I'm looking forward to reading about your detoxing journey. I'm working on something similar (I tend to embark on the journey periodically...and then get a little off track after a while). It always makes me feel amazing. I love raw desserts but they derail me rather quickly!

Can't wait to read more :)

Happy New Year!

It's love/hate with the cacao, eh? I'm kind of backing off it again for a while as well.

Brr ... that looks like Michigan!
