LA - Final Chapter

Last post from my LA vacation!

Alex and I took a trip to Better Life restaurant for dinner one evening with Kate Magic, Tonya Kay, her boyfriend, Cathy Silvers (who starred in Happy Days long ago!), and 2 of her friends.

The food was incredible - OMG if you want great raw vegan food in massive portions for super cheap, this is the place to go. We laughed so hard when the food came out - each dish could easily feed a few people.

Alex and I shared the caesar salad and taco wraps (done in romaine leaves which I like). Unfortunately we couldn't eat all our food and took the leftovers "to go" but never got around to eating them (Im sure you can see why, with all the restos we visited and goodies from Erewhon). The salad was nice and light - not too ceasar-y, but good to balance out the heavier items. The taco wraps were full of flavor and lots of textures which I like.

We got a side of egg salad - the BEST raw vegan egg salad I've ever had!

One of the ladies had the tuna veggie wrap which was huuuuge and tasty.

Always time for shenanigans!

The dessert case looked mighty impressed and Alex insisted upon us trying many of them. He had tried the cinnamon buns before and said we HAD to get one!

A lil' pumpkie pie anyone?! This was really yummmy!

Coconut cream pie - also totally delicious!

Tonya had spirulina cheesecake and it was yummalicious, especially with the vanilla cream sauce.

Good times! :)

So there you have it folks, an amazing trip to the big city. I hope you're having a fabulous Sunday!

LA Vacation - Juliano's and a Raw Ice Cream Shop

I've got a few more posts to share from my LA vacation. A group of us went to Juliano's, restaurant, Planet Raw, in Santa Monica one afternoon for lunch. I've been a fan of Juliano for a long time (in fact, I've had his book for 10 years) so it was great to dine at his place and meet him!

Alex, Courtney, Puki, Sarah, and her friend Marielle, and I hit up the resto and then went to the new outdoor mall nearby.

Most of us had the mint chip shake... incredible! I want to drink jugs of this :)

I was in a salad mood, so ordered this big one. Yummy! The buckwheat croutons were especially nice, and light.

One of the girls had this soup which was tasty.

Alex had this alfredo kelp noodle dish and it was insaaaanely good! Definitely dehydrated to warm perfection.

Cheezey Kelp Noodle Recipe
Thanks to my friend Jozzie who is the master finder of raw recipes - she found this on Juliano's site as the recipe of the month!

Noodles
2 packages Sea Tangle Kelp Noodles
1⁄2 c nut cheeze (see below)
1⁄8 c olive oil
1 tsp fresh rosemary, minced
1⁄4 tsp Celtic sea salt
1 TBS fresh-squeezed lemon juice
2 tsp Bragg Aminos
3 TBSNutritional Yeast
1/2 tsp black pepper

Mix everything in mixing bowl and place in the dehydrator for 1 hour

Nut Cheeze
2 c cashews
1 tsp de-stemmed finely minced fresh rosemary
3 TBS fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1 tsp Celtic sea salt
1 1⁄2 c Water

Blend into a thick cream add more water if needed

Getting ready for the big feast.. oooh yes!

Always room for dessert in my life! Alex, Puki, and I shared 3 different ones.

The strawberry cheesecake, fluffy, light and delicious.

This was apparently the ice cream sundae. HAha... quite the joke. There was nothing ice cream-y about it. The chocolate was more like a truffle mixture - very dense, and NOT frozen or even really cold. The vanilla sauce is tasty, but they put it on everything, all topped with granola and berries.

Chocolate mousse tart... looking incredibly messy (sorry, but it's true) - it was delicious though! The vanilla sauce on top is great, but they put it on all the desserts.

The verdict? The food tasted delicious... but I wasn't as too keen on the presentation. It looks like it was thrown on the plate. Every plate was garnished with radish, cabbage and broccoli, lol. So yeah, that part needs a little work, but otherwise, it was great.

If that wasn't enough, Puki told me about a raw ice cream store right near her house. WELL, you know what I said about that! "Can we go?! Can we go?!" :) I was like a kid in a candy store when we arrived at Kind Kreme. I was the only one to indulge. Alex and I went again a few days later with Tonya Kay, and tried their chocolate and vanilla soft serve which was good, but I preferred the ice cream.

My dream come true. 16 or so flavors or raw vegan ice cream! I sampled all over them :)

I ordered 4 small sccops: mint chip, coconut, chai, and another one - all covered in their amazing salted caramel sauce.

That night, the girls enjoyed the hot tub at Puki's.
I'm so grateful that Courtney came all the way from Arizona for a visit. We're close friends and it was wonderful to see her again (I hadn't seen her since NYC, months ago). It was also great to meet Puki and Sarah, two bright beautiful souls.

Adventures in LA - Part 3

LA adventures continue... with a raw potluck, which was held at Puki's (a new friend introduced by Courtney) house.

It was a wonderful hot evening, surrounded by great people and delicious food. I met my online friend, Debbie Young, and her daughter Sam. Debbie is a beautiful person inside and out, and I really enjoyed connecting with her. If you're not already familiar with her 2 very different blogs, check out Debbie Does Raw, and Grass Fed Momma.

Sam - Debbie's beautiful daughter. I love this pic, she looks like a Goddess.

Alex and I made 3 different ice creams that afternoon - With minimal time and without an ice cream make, it was more like frosty pudding, but yummy nonetheless. Vanilla, chocolate, and rambutan/ginger flavors, with strawberries, banana, and chocolate sauce... Mmmm.

Puki made an amazing pasta dish.

Sam made me a gorgeous birthday card, and bundle of flowers from their garden.

A few days later, Alex and I stopped at Life Food Organic for some "dessert for breakfast", after a sweaty power yoga class.

Alex with the owner, Annie Jubb.

We shared the key lime pie - it was incredible!

Raw coconut yogurt w raw honey and berries - so nice and light.

Thumbs up, we approve!

We met up with Tonya Kay one afternoon for some raw ice cream and then hit up Sunpower Natural Cafe.

Alex and I shared this cacao shake. It was frosty and deeeelish!

Tonya had the creamy broccoli soup and a great looking salad.

I love the ocean and palm trees... I love California!

It was such a fabulous time, as I'm sure you can see... a bit more still to come (I'm always so behind in posting these things).

LA Adventures - Part 2

As I said in my last post, I've got more LA raw restaurant adventures to share with you. I've been a fan of Rawvolution for years, so I was stoked to hit up Euphoria Loves Rawvolution with Alex one sunny afternoon. We grabbed lunch and walked down to the Santa Monica Beach to enjoy it, and then took a ride on the ferris wheel which was so totally fun!

We ordered these amazing wraps which were a special that day.

Taco salad - really delish, but lacking some tortilla chippies.

Side order of coconut jerky with cashew mayo- soooo yummy!

Check out their dessert case - full of all kinds of goodies! We decided on the peanut butter torte, a camu camu bon bon, and a chocolate macaroon. The verdict: the torte was terrible! Banana was clearly used as the base, although there was no indicator of banana on the dessert card. I could only handle one bite of the camu bon bon and threw it out. The macaroon was good though.

We passed this just down the street from the restaurant... I love it and had to get a pic.

Over the course of a week we went to Erewhon about 4 times. It's a fabulous whole food market complete with a juice bar, elixir bar, deli, and every raw packaged food you can imagine.

I went ga-ga for the Tomberlies raw ice cream. We went for the white chocolate macadamia and the fudge ripple. Both are totally yummalicious!

We're cheersing E3 Live shots before we drink green juice.

We came across Alex's very own product - sproutein - a combo of sprouts, hemp, fruits, and veggies.

We left with heaps of goodies every time... oh yeah!

A trip to Juliano's and a raw potluck coming up!
