A Week on the Beach in Maine

Sweetly Raw has been silent for a while. It's been a busy time lately with travels, summer visitors, and being in a friend's bridal party recently. Lately, I've also been battling with some health issues, and am on a strict healing regime (which I'll save for another post because this one is all about FUN) - so I haven't been out of the kitchie - only temporarily!

A week ago, my mom and I embarked on a wonderful trip down to Maine where my Aunty Diane and Uncle Pierre have a cottage on 7 miles of white sand beach. It rained the first day we were here, which was probably for the best in order to get our bearings after traveling 2 days to get here (car, overnight, plane). The rest of the week has been pure sunshine and HEAT - exactly what I love.

The cottage - called Windswept.

Nothing like the beach... literally a 2.5 minute walk from the house (my mom clocked it, lol).

Dinner on the deck with my aunt and  uncle.  I've indulged in plenty of fresh seafood (yes, you read that right) - even a whole lobster one night - I haven't had one in yeeears, and boy, was it good!

My mom, myself, and my Aunt.

Uncle Pierre

My uncle is an excellent photographer and caught me going into a bridge before my hands hit the ground.

One day I made a simple fruit dessert. I got my hands on some young coconuts at Whole Foods and made a strawberry young coconut pudding, layered with a combo of fruits: strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, mango, plum, and some slivered almonds to top it all off.

My mom got completely soaked while sitting at the water's edge on these rocks. She had a blast!

It just so happens that my beautiful goddess friend, Ali, lives 45 mins from my relatives, so it was the perfect time for a visit. I went to her place for a day and night, which was filled with long conversations to "catch up properly" since we haven't seen each other since last November, great food, laughter, a walk, and beach time.

We were fortunate to enjoy a magnificent 5 course dinner feast at our friends, Franky and Camille's place. 5 star cuisine using all fresh, local ingredients (check out Frank's recipes/videos/products HERE).

I saw my cousin and his family - I haven't seen them in 13 years! Family reunion!

The week was fabulous in every way! Now I'm in LA for almost a week of Birthday fun with friends. I'm going to all the raw restaurants, beaches, shopping, and Courtney Pool and myself are hosting a raw potluck on Saturday night. If any one is interested in coming, drop me an email. Would love to have you join us.

If L.A. was a bit closer, would love to attend the raw potluck! Do you have friends in Santa Cruz? If you ever do come up this way, I know we could generate a nice group who would attend a raw food class, if you were willing to teach it. Just the other students in Bauman College alone would love to come. Let us know if you are ever up this way. It would be great to meet you and learn some of your fabulous desserts!

Wow! I am so envious! I have been to the west coast plenty of times, but I've always wanted to see the Atlantic up close instead of in a plane.
Enjoy your vacation!

Beautiful pictures. It's fabulous that you got to spend some quality time with family you'd not seen in so long. I'm preaching to myself too when I say "don't make it so long next time!"
