Sweet Treats and A Surprise Visitor

Hope you all got the memo that The Raw Ice Cream Cake Challenge has been extended until midnight, tonight - there are 25 super duper entries now and perhaps there will be a few more by the end of tonight.
Also a reminder that my site is sweetlyraw.com now - if you've linked to the ice cream challenge prior to a few days ago, they won't work anymore.

Yesterday morning I received a sweet package from bloggie friend, Nelly! I won a recent goodie giveaway of hers, and have been eagerly anticipating these scrummy delights. Thank you Nelly Bear!

Chocolate, Chocolate Covered Macaroons!

Raw Dessert Platter Extraordinaire - Coconut Macaroons, Choc Macs, Mint Chocolate Cookies, and a Choccie Moonie! (I tried a coconut mac and it was divine!)

Piece de Resistance - Mylk Chocolate Moonie Pie - from the contest! I shared this with my mom today and we loved it! I can't wait to try the other cookies.

I'm now back at home in Canada, and have been enjoying the beautiful, natural surroundings once again. Sunrise a few mornings ago...

On the way home, I passed this moosie, and 7 deer.

But the best thing yet has been a surprise visitor .... Mister Bear has been coming to play a lot lately!  I got a video the other day which I'll get around to posting - it was absolutely hilarious. Isn't he adorable?

First, he ripped apart our huge wooden bird feeder, then he attached a ceramic feeder, which he was unable to bite into, but did manage to get some seeds out of. Poor guy, I guess there isn't enough food around this time of year. He's waiting for blueberries just like I am!
After a while we decided it was time for him to leave - but yelling at him, blowing a whistle, and even throwing some small rocks, didn't work (don't worry, not intended to hurt him, just to get him to go). In fact, those tactics forced him up a tree where he stayed for quite a while, and only came down after we stopped nagging him. My dad say's he's about 2 years old.

As I was doing yoga in the living room the next morning, I looked out the glass doors to see him peering in at me! Freaky! I got a pot and wooden spoon and banged so loud it echoed across the lake. Mister bear decided he'd had enough of my racket and took off :) He came and sat on the deck another day... just hanging out.

I hope you're having a great weekend. It's hot and sunny here, so I'll be enjoying yoga and reading on the dock! Results of the ice cream cake contest coming on Tuesday or Wednesday :)

Are the bears dangerous and risky to have around? I can't imagine having such wildlife around, apart from my cat looking like Lion in the un-cut grass.

Nellies desserts look amazing!

Such a cutie bear but I think I'd be a little freaked if he was hanging around that close to home. :\ And yeah, those yummy treats from Nelly look super! Mmm! Can't wait for the ice cream cake results. I have my faves but holy moley! Glad I'm not you and have to decide the winner! Good luck!

Oh my goodness! If I saw that bear, I would have a heart attack! :) I think Ginger would bark at it, thinking she could chase it away like she does the bunnies in our yard. You have bears.. we have bunnies, lol! We have deer too, but mostly in the woods, not so much our yard. Ginger barks at them (and horses too). Once we were on a hike and someone was riding a horse and Ginger was barking at it like crazy, she thinks she is bigger then she is. Anyway, yummy treats from Nelly, she is such a sweetie! Like you, my friend! XO

How lovely that Nelly sent you some special treats. I hope it made you feel very nurtured. Although, being in that incredible environment must feed your soul everyday.

Thank you for sharing your bear adventures. I enjoyed following along from my desk in Toronto were the only bears are colleagues pre-coffee.

Wow, I can't believe the bear o.o. It looks so huge!! I'm guessing he likes humans :D. That is very cool and very scary at the same time. We just get deer around our house, haha!

OMG when you posted that bear pic on twitter I thought it was a joke. How on earth do you feel safe going outside when bears are around?? Very cute though.

OMG, that's a real bear! And I thought I was out in the sticks here with our coyotes & deer ... doing yoga with the bears lol ... must be fun and scary and awesome all at the same time ...

Looking forward to the rest of the ice cream cake entries. I'd intended on entering, but went off half cocked without listening to the directions and ended up with a "didn't follow the directions" cake ... but the folks who DID sure did make some awesome cakes! (can't really mess up a raw cake though ...!)

I think everyone is a winner in this case, considering they got to eat their own creations!

Love all the wildlife, over the weekend we saw an alligator on our walk...

Hehe, glad you guys enjoyed seeing the bear as much as I did!

In answer to "is it dangerous having a bear around?" - yes...kinda. There's no telling what he could do. It sure wouldn't be good if he came upon my 14 year old dog playing in the yard either. But, so far so good :)
