Travel News and a Recipe

Looks like I'm jetting off again... as you probably know, I can't sit still for long, especially in the winter. I barely go outside when it's this cold so I tend to get cabin fever.

Where am I off to this time? Back to New York City baby! The land of the best raw food restaurants in the world, great shopping, sights, etc etc... You might remember that I traveled there in October and had a really amazing time. I dined at Pure Food and Wine twice, enjoyed heaps of goodies from One Lucky Duck, and went to Quintessence twice as well. Guess I can't stay away - I'm going back for more. (This pic is of myself, my long time friend Deana, and new friend Mary, enjoying dinner at Pure Food).

Since I live in such a remote place, I have quite the trek to go anywhere. Tomorrow I drive 1 hour to hop on a bus and ride to Winnipeg which takes 5 hours. Friends will pick me up and take me back to their place where I'll stay overnight and the following morning hop on a plane, fly to Minneapolis, and then finally fly to NYC. Whew! Fortunately I'll be in good hands upon arrival. I'll be wining and dining at one of the city's finest raw restaurants. I'll be visiting with friends, including my dear Courtney who will be up from Arizona, going shopping, doing yoga, and trying P90X for the first time which I'm looking forward to.

Now for a quick recipe, here's a yummy pudding I enjoyed last week

Hempy Vanilly Pudding

0.25 oz soaked irish moss
1 cup water
1/4 cup maple syrup
3/4 cup hemp seeds
2 Tbs lucuma powder
1 Tbs pure vanilla
1 Tbs agave powder
2 tsp lecithin
1/4 cup coconut oil

Chop the irish moss and blend it with the water/ maple syrup until smooth and warm (scrape down the sides a few times in between blending).
Add the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth.
Chill in the fridge for a few hours.

Off to finish packing my bags now... oy, I have a terrible habit of overpacking - I have to remind myself that I'll be shopping in the city, so I need to keep space for all the goods!

OH, and Happy Valentine's Day! Hope you had a great one! How did you spend your day? I spent it making and eating raw chocolate with my mom in addition to watching the Olympics - I am so proud to be Canadian!!!!

Mmmm that pudding looks great! Do you think I can use agave syrup instead of powder? Hmm..

I went to Pure Food for the first time this past Friday and it was amazing! I loved every single course..and I just had a "moonpie" today for dessert that I bought at One Lucky Duck on friday :) yum!

HI Serena,

The powder adds more of a creamy/smoothness rather than a sweetener the way the agave does. You can omit the powder, or add a little more lecithin.

OMG yeah the moonpie is soooo good! I'm definitely having another one! :)

Thank you so much for the wonderful Valentine's gift. I owe you big time.

You really are busy. Since I'm at home with the kids, I'll have to live through you. Tell us all about your travels when you return.

My Valentine's Day was nice. Jacob and Hayden were on their best behavior, and I had so time to relax in a chocolate bath (literally; it was full of cocoa powder and coconut milk, and I used that chocolate scrub). I also sipped on Sarma's Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Shake, something you can easily get at Pure Food & Wine while you are there. Yum!

Have fun in NYC! I wish were going too.

I was hoping you could let me know where on earth to find Irish Moss? I have asked at many health food stores in Toronto but no one knows what I am talking about. Do you buy yours online, do you get it while you during your travels or am I just looking in the wrong place?

I have the Sweet Gratitude book and am dying to try the "lemon meringue pie" so please help if you can!

Thanks!

You certainly are the Goddess of Raw. I really pareciate your generosity with thoughts, recipes and your wealth of experience. What a joy to have access to.
Question: I have a soy sensitivity and am reluctant to use lecithin - is there another ingredient I could use in your recipes (I just bought your ebook) that I could substitute for the lecithin and get same/similar results.
thanks

Laurel - I order my irish moss from Elaina Love's company. I haven't found any in Canada either :(

Ayla - I know you can buy sunflower lecithin now, although I haven't tried it yet. But im sure you could find it at one of the raw food companies online.
